about
Borderfolk seeks to support local musicians with a distinctive voice living within and writing songs about the rural landscapes of the English-Welsh border (aka ‘The Marches’). Musical artists in this area are often dispersed and without access to affordable creative support or recording studios, and thus their voices are often not heard. In an era of global homogenisation, our mission is to help capture and amplify these voices.
the project
We are looking to provide studio production support to 5 talented artists or bands to each record an EP to a professional standard that in some way reflects their connection with the local area, with all rights to be retained by the Artist. There will also be a live musical showcase to provide artists an opportunity to present their work, which will be professionally filmed and made available for sharing.
artist/composer application
Are you a musical artist based within Herefordshire or Shropshire with a particular affinity for the area? Key requirements we are looking for, along with musical & songwriting ability, are:
musical artists that live in or are closely connected to the area of ‘The Marches’, AND
artists who write music (or are interested in writing music for this project) about or inspired by the local landscape and its stories and history.
All production costs will be covered by the project, along with reasonable travel expenses (from the local area).
If you think your music fits within the scope of the project and are interested in taking part or finding out more, please fill out the form below. (We are also looking for session musicians to work with on the recordings, so if you play an instrument to a professional standard please also get in touch!).
